Stub Stewart State Park unveils the start of something good for mountain bikers when it opens the park system?s first bike-specific trails and freeride features Saturday during the annual Oregon State Parks Day celebration.
The park is in Washington County, on Oregon 47 between Banks and Vernonia. Two mountain bike clubs have been working with the park to create five miles of cross-country trails, plus beginner and intermediate terrain parks. The park will need another year to double the size and complete all planned trails.
A group ride is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the occasion, leaving from the park?s Hilltop day-use area.
In honor of State Parks Day, day use and camping in standard sites is free at all Oregon state parks today. The U.S. Forest Service also waives its fees today at recreation sites in honor of National Trails Day. Check out a complete list of today?s state park activities or National Trails Day events.
